  • "From the first sentence, I couldn't put the book down and finished reading it in two sittings. It is a brilliantly realized novel and features an incredibly imaginative world that rivals Harry Potter. I was surprised and delighted at the novel's focus on a discipline in which women are the victors, and an alternate history in which women were more respected and educated. If you're looking for a fantasy-tinged historical novel, or a historically-tinged fantasy novel, you've found your book."

  • "I really enjoyed this book. The plot was very engrossing and the world building was superb! I also live in Boston and I loved the mix of the historical with the fantastical."

  • "How delightful was this read?! Incredibly imaginative and detailed. The women are strong and pragmatic, not idealized. Our protagonist is relatable. I hope there is more of Robert’s story!"

  • "I loved this book! It was very entertaining and had a powerful message about equality given through an extremely unique premise. "

  • "Miller's descriptions and details allow the reader to grasp the concept of empirical philosophy and be sucked right into Robert's world."

  • "It always amazes me that authors can create such intricate worlds. This one sucked me in from the first few pages! "

  • "Loved the blend of chemistry and magic, but is this a men's rights book?"

  • "This is going to be a series, right? The novel starts a little slow, but by the end you're frantically searching for more pages because there's absolutely got to more to this story. I just want more. "

  • "Relatable! A world completely different yet eerily similar to our own. Although I believe this was classified as a "light" read, it left me with plenty to think about in regards to gender equality."

  • "This isn't my usual read but it sounded interesting and I am so glad I chose it. I abso loved it! I did need to keep reminding myself of some of the characters and terms but a very gripping read! "

  • "Such a fun book -- will be appreciated by all fans of books with "going away to magic school" themes. I suspect that this may turn into a series! "
