Quick take

Every word is in its place. You just want to imbibe them... to drink them down, they're so beautifully imagined.

Absolutely one of my favorites. There are certain phrases that just make ya think..hmmm yep very true. Mom and daughter relationships are not always simple..and this book allows us to accept that

This story was a beautiful take on the imperfect love of families. We can be separated from family by miles and years, yet still connected at the heart. A quick read, but lovely and moving.

This novel focuses inward of a young woman who builds her life out of loneliness and poverty. Quiet and powerful, we see the connections and disconnections between a small family and town.

Love the concept of seeing a character through the eyes of others... Barton also does an outstanding job of making a typically unlikable character likable

A sparse and haunting novel that's more a meditation on a damaged mother-daughter relationship. Lyrical and quietly powerful. I was enthralled.
