Every Gillian Flynn fan should read this book.
Why I love it
Book of the Month
Gillian Flynn’s novels are so much fun to read because her plots are super creepy, yet her deeply flawed characters are still somehow relatable. While Gone Girl is the perfect embodiment of domestic suspense taken to extremes, Flynn's previous novel, Dark Places, is more of a freak show carnival ride of crime fiction. When Libby Day was 7 years old, her older brother killed their family in a night of horrors'¦ 'œ_Or did he?_' Twenty-five years later, prompted by a cultish club of groupies obsessed with solving famous crimes, she starts looking into what really happened that night. And you will never guess (literally) what she discovers'¦ Intriguing characters, crazy plot twists, shocks and horrors '“ every Gillian Flynn fan should read this book.
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in 'œThe Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.' She survived'”and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club'”a secret society obsessed with notorious crimes'”locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben.
Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club'”for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started'”on the run from a killer.
Another, dark and twisted thriller that was impossible to put down! Flynn is a master of making you question your opinion of every character about ‘who did it’ until the very end. 5 big ⭐️’s for me!

I didn’t want to stop reading because I knew there was more to the story. A great plot that twisted through to the very end. I enjoyed the dry no nonsense humor and the realities from 1980’s! Enjoy!
Fantastic! Dark and creepy and disturbing - just as you would expect from Flynn. Her characters are always so fleshed out and I was super impressed by the plot☺️Really heavy book subject wise but good

Gillian Flynn is a genius. She knows how to weave a story together. She sprinkles in little details that you remember at the end and make you literally say “holy shit” out loud. Memorable for sure.
This book was not at all what I expected. While reading I felt like I couldn’t figure out the point to things mentioned in the story but everything came full circle and I was impressed by the ending.
"Everything's a theory, that's why it's a mystery! Just a great mystery, Who Killed The Days?" Reminds me of In Cold Blood, with the mashing past and present to solve the horrific murders of this fam.

I love this book! Typically, when reading murder mysteries, I try to solve the case before the book tells me what happened, but while reading this book, I was very wrong with my guess. Crazy good book
Broken Arrow, OK
Very good. Sort of detached from the characters. Libby annoyed me for some reason. The climax of the book seemed to take way too long to get to in my opinion. But still, I couldn't put this book down!
Keeps you interested till the last page.. I feel like I've watched a movie! The author is brilliant in detailing which create super-vivid images of everything what's going on. Leaves you wanting more!

It kept me guessing and doubting myself through the entire book. I thought I knew what would happen and how it would end, boy was I wrong. I've already recommended this to a few friends! It grabs you!

It lives up to its name, but I was sucked in within the first chapter. I don't know how Gillian does it, but even though the main character was not super loveable I was pulling for her the whole time.
Dark Places it is exactly that, very dark and disturbing, you almost feel like you shouldn't love it cause it's full of such messed up people and events but you do. A mystery I couldn't wait to solve.
This thriller was a page turner that couldn't be put down. Libby needed to know what happened on that cursed Day and so did I. I liked the dual timeline and multiple perspectives to solve this mystery
This is definitely a chiller. It draws you into a dark spiral of memories? Is the killer who they really thought? Does lizzie really know what happened? This story is addicting and keeps you trapped
A polished thriller that demands you turn the page. Flynn is gritty and relentless; every word dripping with the macabre. As the title implies, the novel drags you screaming to the darkest of places.
Wow. This book kept me wanting to know more about the mysterious Day family and what happened to them... did not disappoint. Disturbing yet satisfying at the same time. A true Gillian Flynn twist!
All I can say is wow. This is a great mystery told from multiple points of views spanning from the time of the murders to now. I could not put it down and definitely didn’t see the ending coming!
In the wake of true-crime popularity, this book was a nice reminder that the crimes happen to real people who have to deal with the outcome everyday. Loved the characters, the heart, and complexity.
Absolutely LOVE Gillian Flynn's writing! Her characters are so complex and realistic, I feel like I know them in real life. And the plot is incredibly intricate and twisted...I couldn't put it down!
This story was woven together perfectly. Loved how the chapters about the past tied in with the present. I couldn't wait to find time to get back to this book & find out what happened to the Days.
