Synopsis

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

PROLOGUE

Never mix vodka and witchcraft.

Vivi knew that. Not only had her aunt Elaine said it about a thousand times, but it was also printed on dish towels and T-shirts and, ironically, shot glasses in Something Wicked, the store Aunt Elaine ran in downtown Graves Glen, Georgia.

It might’ve actually been the closest thing the Jones family had to a family motto.

But, Vivi reasoned as she sank deeper into the bathtub and took another slurp of the vodka and cranberry concoction her cousin Gwyn had made her, there had to be exceptions for broken hearts.

And hers currently felt very thoroughly broken. Shattered maybe. Little bitty pieces of heart, rattling around in her chest, all because she got sucked in by a cute accent and a pair of very blue eyes.

Sniffling, she flicked her fingers again, filling the air with the smell of Rhys’s cologne, something citrusy and spicy that she’d never managed to put her finger on, but had clearly imprinted on her brain enough that her magic could just summon it up.

Even now, slumped in Gwyn’s claw-foot tub, she could remember how that scent made her head spin when she buried her face against his chest, how warm his skin had been.

Why I love it

Raise your hand if you’re totally over summer and more than ready for a sexy, witchy rom-com. (My hand is raised.) The Ex Hex is the laugh-out-loud Halloween read we all need right now, so I’m giving you permission to light a pumpkin spice candle, grab the kettle corn, and pull out the potions.

Set in Graves Glen, a charming mountain town, Vivienne Jones is feeling the heartbreak. But she’s also a witch so…no big surprise, she whips out the booze and a few playful hexes. (Who of us hasn’t wanted to curse an ex while sipping vodka in the bathtub?) What she doesn’t expect is that same ex, Welsh hottie Rhys Penhallow, to reappear years later. Abracadabra. His hair still does The Thing and the chemistry between the two is white-hot. Just when we think it can’t get any hotter, Vivi and Rhys almost have library sex. Almost. You’d hex them if you could, but there’s no need: just keep reading.

This second-chance rom-com is full of magical mishaps, ghosts, a treat-obsessed cat, and plenty of sweet-and-spicy sexual tension. The Ex Hex is a light and playful read, best devoured next to a roaring fireplace with a pumpkin martini in hand. I suggest you read it alone. Or with your own Welsh witch hottie, if you’re lucky enough to conjure one.

This was such a cute read. I would say if you loved hocus pocus, Casper or Halloweentown growing up, you’ll love this book. Plus, who doesn’t love a man that always asks for consent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So cute so good. Halloweentown/hocus pocus vibes but make it Romance all the way. I breezed through this book and it had me right in my feels for Halloween. Can’t stop recommending it.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Once you get away from the foul language, it’s funny, “spell binding” and different from my normal reads. It’s light hearted and an easy read. Although it’s based with “witchcraft,” it’s not dark.
