At Book of the Month, we will encourage you to achieve at your highest potential. This starts by emphasizing a core set of shared work styles:

This is the foundation of our culture and runs throughout everything we do.
Our priorities change frequently as we learn. Comfort with rapidly changing priorities and the messiness that can arise from it is a requirement.
If someone has to ask for an update, we take it as a sign that we aren’t communicating proactively enough.
We use a direct communication style – especially when we disagree.

We are intentionally lean. It creates opportunity for the right people but also means explicit prioritization is key. We use specific tools that help us all stay aligned.
A key part of having high standards is having the follow through to achieve them.
In our experience, working collaboratively leads to better outcomes. Everyone at the company asks for others to help improve their work.
This annoys some people. But it happens anyway.
By working closely with managers and executives, you will learn a tremendous amount quickly. And you will work on things that truly matter to the business.
We value tenure and seek to promote from within, making room for great people to advance internally over time. Most of our leadership team started at the company at the manager level or below.

The people who succeed at BOTM consistently share a core set of traits:
You enjoy working closely with your managers, favoring frequent interaction, vs. a hands-off approach.
Apprenticeship
You instinctively work when needed, and if that means at night or on a weekend – you get it done.
Always-on
You prioritize career growth to a high degree. And you understand that this means a trade off vs. other things.
Career growth > X
You are focused on improving your craft. Whether it be accounting, creative, editorial, or otherwise, you seek to achieve excellence over time.
Craft mindset
You thrive working in the office 5 days a week and believe an in-person environment is best for your career growth and fulfillment.
In-person person
We spend thousands of hours working together with our teammates over (hopefully) many years. While our interview process may seem lengthy, we think spending 15-20 hours upfront is time well spent for both candidates and the company.
The hiring team will review your application. You’ll hear from us if you’re a good fit for the role.
You will receive a link to complete a brief video interview and skills assessment.
You will hop on a video call with a recruiter so we can both gauge whether this opportunity is right for you.
You will have a more in depth video call with your potential manager.
You will complete a paid project and then present the project to your potential manager. You may receive feedback and do a round of revisions with the team.
You will come to our headquarters in New York City and spend about 2 hours speaking to different members of the BOTM team including your potential manager.
