Don't let the length discourage you: The 700 pages of this part coming-of-age, part survival story fly right on by.

Now a movie
Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by a longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into a wealthy and insular art community.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love—and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.
This was an epic book! Although it is long, the story is incredible and it makes the length worth it. The Goldfinch is written so lyrically - it is pleasant to read. 5/5 ⭐️ and I am happy I read it.
This book was great. I love really long books, and this one is long...but it didn’t feel like it, I didn’t want to put it down. Really interesting, sad, charming. End leaves you pondering for sure.
This book was fantastic. I absolutely adored this book. I couldn’t stop reading it! The attention to detail, the storyline, the characters... It is all astounding! I can not recommend this book enough
One of those big life reads. Rugged, honest, tender, beautiful. Winding & inevitable. Piercing. A true odyssey. Hard to read, harder to put down. Highly recommend the audiobook! Needed a hard copy too

Goldfinch is like a modern-day Catcher in the Rye. Thought provoking, and descriptive beyond belief. You feel like you're in the main character's head the whole time. Tartt is a masterful storyteller!

This story is one of those haunting tales that feels impossibly real. I would put it down for months at a time, unable to bear what might happen next. Gorgeous writing. Had to snag a hardcover copy.
Poetically written, and filled with characters you can’t help but fall for and root for, The Goldfinch became the first book in years that after reading, I put down, and was just in awe, relishing.

Re-read this book afger several years and loved it just as much the second time. The detailed writing, heart-wrenching character journeys, and thought-provoking inner dialogue make an excellent read.

This book definitely left a mark—have been recommending to everyone and am very excited to see the film now! Usually I love page turners and this was a slow build but SO worth it. Beautiful story.
Indian Trail, NC
An extraordinary coming-of-age story steeped in rich imagery, anchored by the depths of human emotion, and propelled by the inevitability of the passage of time. I was hooked by the second chapter.

I read this book on kindle and just had to own a nice hardcover copy. One of my all time favorites! Now BOTM needs to release The Little Stranger so I can have all BOTM versions of Donna Tartt :)
I put off reading this for years only to give in because I saw Finn Wolfhard in the movie adaptation. Anyhow, I fell in love from the start. Even as the book drifted into slowness, I felt obsessed.
This book is so beautifully written and it keeps you engaged the entire way through. So many moments of sage wisdom, but the main character always seems realistically flawed. Definitely a classic.

I am so glad i gave this a chance. Yes, its long. Yes, it takes awhile to get through. It is so worth it! "In the midst of our dying...it is a glory and privilege to love what Death doesnt touch."
Loved this story! For something that is over 800 pages, I really loved how easy it felt to read this book. Reading the synopsis, it is not my usual choice of book. Speaks volumes for the author!
I decided to read this book after seeing a trailer for the movie on amazon prime. I was shocked I never heard of it before. The book is amazing. Its a beast yes, but well worth it. I love Theo!
There are not enough words to describe this extraordinary odyssey that makes you fall in love with the small portrait of a goldfinch and the rescue of a young boy through friendship and love.
Fort Myers, FL
This is my favorite book I have ever read. I loved the in depth character development. Everything about this story is amazing and I’m sure I will reread it. I had the biggest book hangover
Round Lake Park, IL
200 stars for this literary masterpiece. The story of Theo Decker and a painting, but so much more than that. This is the story of grief and obsession, pain and loneliness, sadness and love.

This is one of my favorite books I have ever read. I loved every character. It is a beautiful piece about watching a life unfold, in all of its ups and downs. 100% will be reading more Tartt.
