A soon-to-be TV series for true crime lovers. Sure, investigative podcasts may help some, but they can hurt some, too.
Good to know
Josie Buhrman has spent the last ten years trying to escape her family and with good reason. After her father’s murder thirteen years prior, her mother ran away to join a cult and her twin sister Lanie, once Josie’s closest friend and confidant, betrayed her in an unimaginable way. Now, Josie has finally put down roots in New York, settling into domestic life with her partner Caleb, and that’s where she intends to stay.
The only problem is that she has lied to Caleb about every detail of her past—starting with her last name.
When investigative reporter Poppy Parnell sets off a media firestorm with a megahit podcast that reopens the long-closed case of Josie’s father’s murder, questioning whether the wrong person may be behind bars, Josie’s world begins to unravel. Meanwhile, the unexpected death of Josie’s long-absent mother forces her to return to her Midwestern hometown where she must confront the demons from her past—and the lies on which she has staked her future.
A book that you have trouble putting down because it keeps you on the edge of your seat. A haunting unforgettable traumatic past, the undying bond of sisterhood, family. Twin power reunited in this thriller

Read this over two sittings. The characters were well-drawn, the story was intriguing and the overall pace was good. I would’ve liked a bit more post-final reveal, but overall, I highly recommend it.

As a fan of Serial and Up and Vanished podcast, I loved the format of this! My only dislike is the republishing under a new title - read original 2 years ago and didnt realize till starting this ????
This book was so good! I enjoyed reading it! The reader is put in the middle of the action and sympathizes with the main characters. This book was a great read and very interesting. Would recommend!
I enjoyed the mix of storytelling with the podcast episodes. This story had my mind constantly working, trying to figure out who really was the killer. The twists werent many but still a great read

I read this book quickly and felt connected to the main character. I thought the mother Poppy was the most interesting of all and would have liked to have read more from her perspective. Recommend!
This was the indulgent, binge-worthy mystery that I needed! The multi-format storytelling adds to the genre, the protagonist is loveable and the mystery is well-constructed with well-hidden clues.
In the current age of true crime podcast, I thought this was a fascinating look at the other side and how the characters in the stories are impacted. Not to mention, its a pretty great who dunnit.

Honestly at first it was hard to get focused. Once i started getting into it, it was hard to put down!! Definitely expected/didnt expect the ending if that even makes sense. Definitely Recommend!
Such a sad and great book at the same time. It reminded me of how simple and easy it can be for the justice system to get away with how they treat suspects and possibly ruin their lives forever.

Being a fan of true crime & podcast this way an easy, interesting read. I liked the view point of the podcast alternating with Joise’s- which was directly effected by the podcast!! Great book!

What would you do if your world fell apart, rebuilt itself, then fell apart again? This book did an incredible job of keeping me enthralled and constantly wondering what was going to happen next!

I loved this! The story is told through the main character as well as the podcast about her father's death. Very intriguing, and the main character felt very real in dealing with her situation.

Captivated me from start to finish! I couldnt put it down. I felt I was inside the story but also an outsider getting the snippets from the podcast. Great story, an ending I did not see coming.

I loved the podcast laced in between the chapters and the dysfunctional twin drama in the book. It was an interesting read that once I got going I couldn't put it down! Interesting characters!
This book was a great one! The mystery of it kept me on the edge of my seat. It was one I didn’t want to put down. I love true crime podcasts, so it really made me rethink their impact.
What a fun, fast, and wild ride! LOVED THIS FORMAT! It was the perfect length of pages. The chapters were short. I loved the excerpts of the podcast, the twitter and reddit conversations.
I love the unique mix of following the narrator, Josie, cut with social media posts and podcast transcriptions. The story, while being a little predictable, was still captivating.
On the whole, I loved this book. There were a couple of lulls but altogether really kept my interest. I surprisingly loved having the podcast “episodes” break up the chapters.
This was such a quick read. Great addition of current social media into the book by following a podcast and reactions to it on twitter and whatnot. It was a really good book!!
