I love reading long fantasy books in the summer. There’s something lovely about sitting at the beach, cracking open a thick fantasy book, knowing that you have hours on end to explore a new world. This year, Immortal Consequences was easily my favorite beach read to get lost in.

Blackwood Academy is a school located at the edge of the afterlife, where students learn how to shepherd lost souls. For those who study hard, there is a chance to join the elite faculty of Blackwood Academy and avoid the Other Side, which is an unknowable fate for all who cross over. Immortal Consequences is simply pure fun, a magical competition where the stakes have never been higher and secrets and betrayal go hand in hand. I began reading this book for the immersive world and magical academy, but I stayed for the characters. I couldn’t stop reading until I knew their fates and who would survive.
