Turn off your phone and clear your calendar, because you're going to want to read this sensational thriller in one sitting. Holy cats - what a book! I Let You Go is a clever mystery with compelling characters and a pulse-pounding ending!

A rain-slick street, a speeding vehicle, a mother letting go of her son's hand for just a second. And in an instant, tragedy falls on a quiet Bristol town when a young life is ended.

A grieving mother is sent reeling by the hit‐and‐run, her mind replaying the image of him running out into the road. Filled with sorrow and guilt, she flees her home for the solitude of a rundown cottage on a sheep farm in Wales.

A seasoned veteran of the police force, paired up with a young new officer, is sent to find the driver of the car. But there are no clues, and as the months pass by without any leads, they may never discover who the killer is.

And that's just the beginning! I Let You Go is a tense, multi-layered tale, carefully plotted and fantastically realized. The pain of a parent's loss, a survivor's guilt, the police's frustration with a dead-end case, an unknown killer - all these things are expertly explored and written with precision and empathy.

Part of what makes this story so believable - and what drew me to it - is that Clare Mackintosh was a police officer herself for twelve years. That experience lends an air of credibility to the book, especially the parts involving the Bristol officers' search for a killer.

I Let You Go is an emotional rollercoaster ride, with reveal after stunning reveal that will shock and dazzle you with its cleverness all the way up to the explosive finale.

I can't even put into words how great of a book this was. I'm utterly speechless. I read it in about 4 sittings and didn't want to put it down. This book will keep you guessing every step of the way.

LOVED IT. The twist was incredible. I always predict twists, but I didn't figure this one out. It made me have to flip back to the first half and re-read it from a different perspective. Recommended.

My uncanny ability to guess the twists of books had me over-confident in my abilities. I didn't see how masterful Clare Mackintosh's writing was. I was blindsided with the mid-way twist. Amazing!

Very rarely does a book completely throw me, but the surprise in this one caused me to go back and re-read the first chapter. I gasped, cried and hoped throughout this book. Never a dull moment.

  • Portland, OR

I was late to reading this book and although I heard multiple times that the twist was amazing, I didn't believe it until my mouth was hanging open and I let out a gasp! A fun ride of a book!

A genuine twist impossible to predict. So expertly written. So chilling in its delivery. So poignant in its content. I passed this one along to many many others who all felt the same way.

This book kept me guessing the whole way through! Some parts were hard to read and I needed to put down the book to gather myself. Overall, really well written and I couldn't stop reading!

This is my favorite kind of mystery. Intelligent, by turns both sad and hopeful, and full of characters that both need and exude compassion. Beautifully written, I didn't want it to end.

  • West Columbia, SC

I thought I had a good grip on the plot of the book when I began reading, but when I reached the middle I was completely blindsided by the sudden shift! I could not put this book down!

What a great read. As many twists as your favorite roller coaster. The story stays with you long after you've closed the book. You'll be talking about it with your next glass of wine.

Great twists and turns I didn't see coming. The story left me wondering but in a good twisty way. This was my first Mackintosh book and I will definitely read more from this author.

Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I couldn’t put this book down! My heart had a hard time handling this one by the payoff was very good. Highly recommend!

  • Birmingham, AL

Loved the midway twist and the constant swap between narrators and points of view. Found one particular narrator super creepy and off-putting but essential to the story.

  • Boise, ID

This entire book was an emotional rollercoaster. The characters were brilliant. It definitely left me feeling a little spooked and looking over my shoulder. A MUST READ.

  • Alpena, MI

The beginning was slow, but the twist halfway through definitely roped me in! I read the second half of the book in one afternoon! I hope the author writes a sequel.
