Turn off your phone and clear your calendar, because you're going to want to read this sensational thriller in one sitting. Holy cats - what a book! I Let You Go is a clever mystery with compelling characters and a pulse-pounding ending!
A rain-slick street, a speeding vehicle, a mother letting go of her son's hand for just a second. And in an instant, tragedy falls on a quiet Bristol town when a young life is ended.
A grieving mother is sent reeling by the hit‐and‐run, her mind replaying the image of him running out into the road. Filled with sorrow and guilt, she flees her home for the solitude of a rundown cottage on a sheep farm in Wales.
A seasoned veteran of the police force, paired up with a young new officer, is sent to find the driver of the car. But there are no clues, and as the months pass by without any leads, they may never discover who the killer is.
And that's just the beginning! I Let You Go is a tense, multi-layered tale, carefully plotted and fantastically realized. The pain of a parent's loss, a survivor's guilt, the police's frustration with a dead-end case, an unknown killer - all these things are expertly explored and written with precision and empathy.
Part of what makes this story so believable - and what drew me to it - is that Clare Mackintosh was a police officer herself for twelve years. That experience lends an air of credibility to the book, especially the parts involving the Bristol officers' search for a killer.
I Let You Go is an emotional rollercoaster ride, with reveal after stunning reveal that will shock and dazzle you with its cleverness all the way up to the explosive finale.
