If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorb the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple—until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist, who lost her license due to controversial methods.

When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.

Why I love it

The Golden Couple—Greer Hendricks’s and Sarah Pekkanen’s latest domestic thriller—is my favorite kind of suspense story: an edge-of-your-seat mystery with dynamic, strong female characters at its center.

In The Golden Couple’s opening pages, you will meet Avery Chambers, an eminent (and quite unconventional) “therapist,” who is unlike any therapist you’ve ever known. If she can’t fix your issues in ten sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. This sounds like just the ticket for The Golden Couple’s other protagonist, Marissa Bishop, who is desperately trying to save her floundering marriage and keep her family together—for the sake of her young child.

Unfortunately, the problems these women think they are facing are just the tip of the iceberg. The secrets lying just beneath the surface mean it’s not only the Bishops marriage that needs saving, but also Avery and Marissa’s lives…

This riveting novel stands out because of its authors’ amazing character work. I found myself drawn ineluctably to Avery and Marissa—and stayed up into the wee hours of the night to find out their fate. A propulsive page-turner, The Golden Couple is perfect for domestic thriller lovers looking for their next exciting read.

I really liked this! The story kept me on the edge of my seat and there weren’t really any moments where I rolled my eyes and thought “this wouldn’t happen” so I take that as a win! Strong characters

They’ve done it again! They never disappoint! Let me put it this way, some of it takes place at my job and now I’m slightly scared to go into work. So if you’re looking for a good thriller this is it.
